GCCEC upgrades Christie projectors

Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre recently acquired four cutting-edge Christie M 4K+25 RGB pure laser projectors.

For over a decade, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) has entrusted Christie projectors to illuminate its diverse array of events. From the early days of lamp-based M Series and Roadster J Series to the laser-illuminated Crimson HD25 projectors, GCCEC’s enduring partnership with Christie has been defined by exceptional image quality, versatility, and a commitment to sustainability.

Nestled in the heart of vibrant Broadbeach, within walking distance to the beach and thousands of accommodation options, GCCEC stands as Australia’s largest regional convention centre. This purpose-built facility caters to a diverse range of events, from intimate gatherings to large plenaries and banquets.

Notably, GCCEC sets a benchmark as a sustainable venue, holding the prestigious title of the world’s first convention centre to receive EarthCheck Platinum Certification, recognizing the venue’s commitment to operating at the world’s highest environmental standards for an impressive 10 years.

Chris Davey, executive manager of technology at GCCEC, underscores the importance of high-quality equipment as a strategic pillar for the Centre. “Christie projectors have been a part of our success story for more than a decade. Their market acceptability, proven performance, reliability, and the company’s exceptional after-sales service make them a natural choice for GCCEC. Moreover, as leaders in sustainability, we are dedicated to offering world-class event experiences that align with our long-term sustainability goals,” he says.

Enhancing the audience experience

In a significant move to further elevate the audience experience and solidify GCCEC’s position as Australia’s premier business events destination, the venue recently acquired four cutting-edge Christie M 4K+25 RGB pure laser projectors. These compact powerhouses, boasting an impressive 25,300 lumens, 4K UHD resolution with TruLife+ electronics, electronic colour convergence (ECC), and an intelligent lens system (ILS1) compatible with Christie’s legacy M, J, and Crimson Series projector lenses, were chosen for their exceptional colour output and lower power consumption.

“This decision aligns seamlessly with our commitment to sustainable practices,” says Davey. “Particularly, the projectors efficiently integrate with our existing Christie lens suite and rigging frames, making them the ideal choice for both performance and sustainability.”

Flexibility and versatility in venue usage

One striking feature of GCCEC’s implementation of these projectors is their adaptability and portability. They are flexibly deployed throughout the Centre’s four exhibition halls, a divisible arena, and meeting rooms. This versatility empowers GCCEC to deliver vibrant, lifelike visuals in diverse event spaces without permanent installation in a fixed location.

Davey notes, “The M 4K+25 RGB projectors’ lightweight and compact design, complemented by flexible mounting options, offer unparalleled versatility across various spaces. Moreover, their ability to adjust brightness based on screen dimensions enhances the visual experience for all attendees.”

Clients now benefit from streamlined installation processes, courtesy of the projectors’ small form factor and low weight. Delegates and visitors also enjoy superior colour reproduction, while event installation times have improved with the M 4K+25 RGB projector’s omnidirectional capabilities, which offer unlimited installation flexibility.

Making a noticeable impact

Davey shares a recent success story where the Christie M 4K+25 RGB projectors made a significant impact during a high-profile event. In an environment favouring LED screens, these projectors were chosen due to rigging and power constraints, and the projectors were used to provide a display solution in a room with high ambient light. The result? A customer experience enhanced by vivid, bright, and colourful light output.

“GCCEC holds a strong market reputation, enjoying years of positive client reviews and repeat business. The acquisition of Christie M 4K+25 RGB projectors helps provide client confidence in our commitment to investment in quality products,” says Davey. “While projectors alone may not be the sole attraction for customers, they significantly contribute to GCCEC’s reputation for offering world-class technology, outstanding visuals, enhanced event capabilities and showcasing its commitment to sustainability.”

Looking ahead, Davey says GCCEC plans to leverage the projectors for large-format projection mapping and for use alongside their LED screen technology, further enhancing the user and visitor experience. These strengths and advantages solidify GCCEC’s position as a leading event hub, dedicated to excellence and sustainability.

Greg Spence, senior business development manager for Australia and New Zealand, Enterprise, Christie, shares similar sentiments. He remarks, “GCCEC’s journey with our projectors over the years exemplifies the convergence of technology, sustainability, and excellence in enhancing event experiences. With the deployment of our M 4K+25 RGB projectors throughout the facility, I am confident that GCCEC is exceptionally positioned to create unforgettable moments for clients while making a lasting impact on the industry.”
