Flys Supervisor

Joining OA’s Technical division, our Flys Supervisor will support and will be answerable to the Head of Flys and Deputy Head of Flys under the direction of the Head Mechanist. 

Focus areas

  • Supervise the implementation of OA’s operational procedures for the fly floor 
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of stage machinery and equipment 
  • Coordinate changeovers, act changes, and other production staging tasks 
  • Apply theatrical rigging techniques as required 
  • Interpret and apply technical drawings and ground plans 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in carpentry, metal fabrication, and use of tools 
  • Work independently and collaborate with other technical departments when needed 
  • Assist the Deputy Head of Flys in the daily running of the team  
  • General admin duties, including but not limited to purchase, record, maintain relevant consumables, hardware and materials required for the effective running and maintenance of the productions team 


About you

  • 2+ years’ experience as a Flys Technician  
  • Hold a basic rigging High Risk Work License (Intermediate or advanced will be an advantage) 
  • Advanced experience with rope access  
  • Familiarity with the installation and operation of chain hoists 
  • Exposure to a theatre or live venue environment preferred but not required 
  • Demonstrate ability to work with creative and technical personnel and performers 
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices 
  • Capable of carrying out manual handling tasks and comfortable working at heights 
  • Practical knowledge of the operation of various stage machinery and construction hand tools


This is a fixed-term, full-time role so the successful candidate will be available between May 2024 and June 2025.
