Melbourne Theatre Company is looking for a skilled and experienced Fly/Staging Supervisor to join our Southbank Theatre Technical Team. This dynamic role involves overseeing the venue’s Power Fly system and staging requirements, ensuring seamless execution for all productions.
As Fly/Staging Supervisor, you will:
- Operate and maintain the Power Fly systems and staging equipment.
- Execute rigging requirements for flown scenery and technical elements.
- Perform Mechanist duties and show crew responsibilities as required, working collaboratively with the technical team.
This position requires a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, making it an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong commitment to world-class live performance.
Key Criteria
- Able to work under limited supervision, both collaboratively in a team as well as alone.
- Experience and knowledge in the use of basic hand and power tools including the safety requirements of their use.
- Extensive experience in Staging/Flys in a similar role in a theatre context.
- Knowledge of Power Flying systems for live performance.
- Knowledge of Nomad control platform with the ability to program complex flying productions.
- Basic trade skills in painting and carpentry.
- Perform a range of maintenance functions.
- The ability to be able to accurately work from, read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
- Knowledge and understanding of theatre practices, terminology, etiquette and theatre craft is essential.
- Display a high level understanding of EHS issues, policies, legislation and Australian Standards
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Initiative to take on tasks.
- Capacity to negotiate with sensitivity and patience.
- Understands and apply quality control techniques.
- The ability to cope with the demands of a high pressured position where time and resources are limited and artistic expectations are high.
