Field Technician

Jands has over 40 years’ experience providing turn-key solutions, from design, engineering and manufacturing, to installation, maintenance and service.

Job tasks and responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Field Technician to join our safety focused, NSW operations team. This varied and interesting role will undertake service and maintenance work in variety of environments, including theatres, schools and performance spaces.

The type of works will vary from job to job, however duties can include:

  • Installation, commissioning and maintaining equipment and fixtures such as motors, winches, lifts, hoists, curtain track systems, manual and counterweight rigging systems in compliance with applicable standards;
  • Performing tasks associated with rigging and load test equipment;
  • Installing and inspecting wiring, fixtures and rigging components for compliance and associated documentation;
  • conducting installation, commissioning and maintenance inspections of staging equipment at various sites nationally and NZ;
  • providing detailed service reports;
  • assisting in performing ad hoc installation and scheduled servicing and maintenance of installed products and systems;
  • conducting diagnostics for repairs and complete quotations for customers;
  • performing emergency service and maintenance works as required by the ‘on call’ (including after hours) roster and as required by the needs of the business;
  • Rapid problem solving of client equipment on and offsite.

Skills and experience

To be considered for this position with Jands you must meet the criteria listed below:

  • Electrical trade certification in NSW to a minimum of Electrician (A Grade). Eligible for equivalent licensing in other states.
  • General Construction Induction Card;
  • Licence to Perform High Risk Works (WP & DB);
  • Elevated Work Platform Licence (SL, VL, BL) – (desirable);
  • Current and valid Driver’s Licence (c class minimum);
  • Work Safely at Heights Training and experience working at heights;

It would be an advantage to possess working knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems relevant to the theatrical and staging industry.

Applicants should note:

  • Role will require the technician to work and be contactable outside of normal working hours.
  • Intrastate travel will be required from time to time.
