Fat Sound uses COLORado Panel Q40 for HMAS

When Fat Sound headed by Ray Eberle were contracted to provide lighting for the HMAS Albatross Ship’s Ball at Fleet Air Arm Museum, one fixture that was essential for Ray was a wash light that would be able to provide a powerful enough colour saturation for the event. After seeing the new COLORado Q40 Panel from CHAUVET Professional in action for various companies, Ray was thoroughly impressed with what the fixture was capable of. As a result, he decided to acquire the new fixture from Showtools International.

“I was looking for a fixture that would be able to provide a powerful wash for the hanging aircraft within the venue with it being inside the aircraft Museum, which houses various military aircraft. Once I saw what the COLORado Panel Q40 in action at Showtools, I knew it would be perfect as part of lighting for this event,” stated Ray.

Ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, the COLORado Panel Q40 is a powerful IP65-rated rectangular wash light that features 40 15 W RGBW LEDs capable of flawless edge-to-edge colour mixing.

Ray described the power of the Q40, “I used 2 of the COLORado Panel Q40’s to highlight one of the hanging aircrafts, one with a magnetic filter and one without, and only on half the capacity as there was so much output for such a small fixture! It provided an amazing wash that exceeded all my expectations and with its adjustable beam angles, the Q40 fixture ticks all the boxes in a panel wash light.”

Furthermore, Ray also utilised other CHAUVET Professional fixtures for the other aircrafts, “For the static aircraft on the ground we used 12x Nexus 4×4 LED Panels. The combination of COB emitters and a clever reflector design allowed me to have a striking, diffused light richly drenched in saturated hues.”

To light up the stage, Ray used Ovation B-565FCs and COLORado 72 Tour Battons. “The B-565FC is a little powerhouse that not only makes a great batten-style light, but is also a tremendous standard wash and washed the stage beautifully,” Ray said. “In addition, we also implemented The Ovation E-260WW and used it to display the gobo on the hangar wall with a 50-degree lens.”

Ray concluded that the COLORado Panel Q40s were the true star of the show, “We had more CHAUVET Professional Nexus and Ellipsoidals at our disposal to use, but we simply did not need to utilise them, as the existing Q40s was more than adequate for the application. We had many people commenting on the display and we were very gratified to hear gasps of amazement.”
