On 30th September 2020, the live events industry campaign #wemakeevents lit up venues, warehouses and landmarks in RED. This is a global campaign to raise public and media awareness in support of the current plight of the live events sector in the COVID-19 landscape.
Sydney based audio-visual production company EventSound created an artistic visual installation at Prince Henry Function Centre in Little Bay. It was a collaboration with NSW Event Truck staging provider Stagefast.
Stagefast set up an outdoor truck stage in the venue car park, and EventSound lit the stage with a full programmed moving light show plus architectural lighting projected on the Prince Henry Function Centre facades.
There was a short, programmed performance piece utilising lighting design by industry-renowned Rob Easton, who has created works for international tours, corporate events, movie premieres and Vivid art light showcases as well as architectural design concepts and programming.
The programmed piece played on an empty truck stage with light filling the space where performers would usually be.
Socially distanced LED lights were placed throughout the car park spaced as though they were audience members to the stark empty stage.
This performance was set to a short ambient soundscape created by DJ Producer Heimanu.
Heimanu first came to prominence as a Sydney based producer with his official remix for RL Grime’s “UCLA”, his further releases on Sable Valley, DIM MAK, Lowly and Circus Records have totalled over 5M+ streams. He is known for his unique sound which he encapsulates under the genre ‘NuRave’.
This original soundscape is drawn on elements from concert sound-checks, with excerpts of noise, tones and microphone checks, building the rising commotion of an event set-up abruptly pulled to a halt, the aftermath conveying emptiness and uncertainty.
