Melbourne & Olympic Parks, Melbourne’s home of live sports and entertainment, has invested in top-quality trussing technology, acquiring over 150 meters of the Eurotruss XTS Truss. The acquisition, which will be used across the precinct’s major arenas – Rod Laver Arena, John Cain Arena and Margaret Court Arena – will enhance the precinct’s capabilities for complex rigging setups and delivering seamless support for world-class performances. With a range of events held throughout the year, the XTS Truss will serve a wide array of rigging needs, from concerts and performances to sporting events and entertainment spectacles.
Glen King, Head of Productions at Melbourne & Olympic Parks, explained that the decision to invest in the Eurotruss XTS Truss was driven by its impressive strength-to-weight ratio.
“Our venues are multi-purpose, and we need equipment that offers both high performance and ensures safety,” said Glen.
“Our three arenas have retractable rooves, which are used extensively during the Australian Open, where the tournament is played in open air. For concerts and events throughout the year, we often need to rig heavy loads off these rooves, and we need spreader trusses that we can pre-install to enable to show pick-up points wherever they’re needed. The loads are sometimes multiple 2-tonne points across spans of 8 to 10 meters. The Eurotruss XTS was the best product for this task.”
Designed for maximum load-bearing capacity, the XTS Truss is ideal for long, bending-resistant spans of up to 36 meters, making it perfect for venues with large-scale events. The truss boasts a high-strength, lightweight build, with a 60x5mm tube that ensures extreme durability and rigidity. Despite its large load-bearing capability, the XTS Truss is notably easy to handle and is equipped with the fast CS3 connection system, enabling quick and secure setups.
“We’re already seeing great ROIs on these,” Glen continued. “The XTS Truss was instrumental in supporting Olivia Rodrigo’s recent shows in Rod Laver Arena, particularly for her stunning tracking moon effect that circled out around the audience. The truss was also used extensively for other major events such as Disney On Ice at Rod Laver Arena, the Victorian State School Spectacular, Parkway Drive and Eric Chou at John Cain Arena, and other various shows, all of which have high technical demands on our rigging systems.”
Melbourne & Olympic Parks’ trusted in-house rigging team, Capricorn, installs the XTS to use for events requiring rigging support. With its new Eurotruss XTS Truss system, Melbourne & Olympic Parks continues to lead the way in providing high-quality technical support for world-class events. As the venue plays host to more major shows, concerts, and sporting events in the future, this investment will ensure that it remains at the forefront of performance rigging technology.
