In 2008 Newcastle music lovers were screaming for their own festival inside the city limits… enter Fat as Butter. Now with two festivals, 20,000 punters and 50 artists under our belt, FAB has certainly made itself at home as Newcastle signature annual music event!
On Saturday October 23rd around 15-thousand people converged on Foreshore Park, near Nobbys Beach, Newcastle for the third Fat as Butter concert spread across three stages. Headline acts were Wolfmother and Ice Cube along with Sneaky Sound System, dance sensations The Potbellez, Aria Award winning Hip hop outfit Bliss N Eso, The Beautiful Girls, Tame Impala and Children Collide.
Entertainment Installations supplied lighting, audio, risers, DJ gear, crew and some backline to the two main stages – the Fat Stage and the Butter Stage.
“Both stages at Fat As Butter were a challenge as we also had shows out with Kasey Chambers, David Campbell, The Angels, Sarah Blasko and an outdoor car show on at the same time,” said Neale Mace, managing director of Entertainment Installations. “The crew worked some long hours on prep and logistics to make this happen.
“However, we had a great result at a sold-out festival with promoter and punters very happy.”
The main stage show was designed around three trusses plus a separate truss for sixteen Martin LC Panels. The LC panels were used for “eye candy” with the visuals supplied via an Arkaos media server. There were also inputs from live camera and some acts brought their own media.
“As the LC’s are so bright, we needed s fair bit of punch in the rest of the rig and the preference was for MAC700’s and LED fixtures,” explained Neale. “We used twelve of our twenty-eight MAC301’s across two trusses and they performed flawlessly. I can’t tell you how happy we are with these lights. They are just so light, so bright, so flexible, and so popular.
Also on the main ‘Fat’ stage were twelve Martin MAC700 Profile, eight MAC700 Wash, four Martin Atomic Strobe, eight Pro Shop Honeycomb 72 LED bars, six 4 Lite molefay, sixteen MultiPar VNSP and four Fresnels
The Butter stage utilized six MAC250 Entour, eight MAC250 Wash, 6six MAC301 LED wash, four Martin Atomic Strobe, four Molefay Duets and sixteen MultiPar VNSP.
An MA Lighting grandMA2 light + wing (using MA2 software) was at FOH with the entire show set up by Bryce Mace in the factory using the MA Visualizer. Bryce operated for all the acts who didn’t bring lighting designers including Ice Cube.
