Emergency Lightwright License Available

John McKernon, creator of the popular Lightwright software, teaches at NYU and like many universities, it has closed its doors, with students taking classes remotely as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Many students don’t have access to their school’s computer labs or Lightwright licenses. “As it turns out, there are a lot of schools in this position, and they’re emailing me to ask if there’s anything I can do to help,” he says.

As a result, McKernon has created a special emergency Lightwright license, available now for anyone who needs to use Lightwright under these circumstances between now and June 1, 2020.

Here’s how to use it:

Download and install the public beta of Lightwright 6.0.30.344, available here. Older versions of Lightwright will not work with this emergency license.

Download the .lwtrn file using this link: Lightwright License Exp 6-1-20.LWtrn

Put the .LWtrn file in either your Documents folder or on your computer’s desktop. Depending on your operating system, it may work in one location but not the other.

Launch Lightwright. There is nothing else to do.

The license expires June 1, 2020 and is not renewable. Regular student licenses are available as usual from any City Theatrical dealer worldwide.

Complete info on how to download and use the license can be found at https://www.mckernon.com.
