Electro-Voice LRC-2100 Lands in Australia with Installation at St Mark’s Anglican Church, Tasmania

St Mark’s Anglican Church became one of the first sites in Australia to install the new Electro-Voice LRC-2100, as apart of an upgrade of the church’s audio system. The project was delivered by local integrator GK Productions, who were engaged to design, and install a solution to overcome the audio challenges of the chapel.

The existing system had reached end of life, with ongoing issues including reliability, inconsistent coverage, poor gain before feedback and general lack of clarity and intelligibility.

The chapel, originally built in 1903, has been reconfigured with an ‘in-the-round’ layout for worship. This has created a wide but shallow space in which the congregation are seated, presenting several acoustic challenges—particularly with the speakers positioned above the sanctuary and behind all microphones.

“We often specify the Electro-Voice EVH horn-loaded enclosures in acoustically complex spaces,” said Gareth Kays of GK Productions. “But in this case, the boxes were simply too large for this sensitive heritage environment.”

Fortunately, Electro-Voice had recently launched the LRC Series (Line Radiator Column), a compact high-performance solution ideal for acoustically challenging environments. “These fitted our design parameters perfectly,” Gareth explained.

GK Productions team selected the LRC-2100 model, each cabinet contains twelve 2.5-inch drivers, offering exceptional pattern control. “The LRC provided 25 degrees of vertical coverage, ideal for our needs, with a switch to change to 45 degrees if required. We used three enclosures to achieve the 180 degrees of horizontal coverage required.”

To support the system, EVID-S10.1D dual 10-inch Subwoofers were added to extend low-frequency response. A single EVC-1082/95 is used as a delay speaker for the adjoining meeting space, and Dynacord C-Series Amplifiers were chosen to handle processing, equalisation, and time alignment.

“The results are phenomenal,” said Gareth. “We’ve received some fantastic feedback on the clarity and intelligibility. The new system has truly elevated the worship experience for the band and the congregation alike in what remains a complex audio environment.”

This new project adds to the extensive list of House of Worship projects that GK Productions have successfully delivered.
