EAVP Discover the Ayrton Mistral!

Perth’s Elite Audio Visual Productions welcomed 12 Ayrton Mistrals, the highly compact, lightweight and powerful 300 W spot luminaire taking the market by storm.

“We’d been looking for a replacement workhorse light but didn’t know much about Ayrton products,” explained Brock Preston, Managing Director of EAVP. “Once we came across the specs for the Mistral we were very intrigued, to say the least.”

The specs promised an extremely versatile, feature-rich, white LED source spot in an incredibly small package and a weight of less than 19 kg. An assured output of over 18,000 lumens and a new 13-lens proprietary optical system that can deliver an 8:1 zoom ratio with a zoom range of 6.7° to 53° was also attractive. Added to the fact that the optics, equipped with a 119mm frontal lens, can achieve an extremely uniform flat beam that can render images perfectly in all conditions and at any beam angle, the Mistral seemed too good to believe!

“The Mistral certainly lives up to the hype and I was blown away by it!” declared Brock. “I’m totally in love with them and it’s amazing how many features are packed into such a small unit. The output from them is incredible.”

Brock soon discovered that the Mistral is a very quiet light, obviously a bonus in theatre environments, and he was impressed by its’ cooling system.

“They will definitely be our main workhorse unit for the next five years and I can see us buying many more units in the future as I’m sure they will be hot out of the door,” he said. “I’m sure the majority of hire companies in Perth will follow suit as they are certainly the hot-ticket product at the moment that everyone wants. Ayrton is known for reliability and with Show Technology’s renowned support, you can’t go wrong.”

The first job for EAVP’s Mistrals was Taal … The Rhythm of Dance for Veena’s School of Indian Dance held at St Hilda’s Mosman Park. The Mistrals were rigged overhead for big gobo washes onstage and with 16 interchangeable HD glass gobos on two wheels, Brock had plenty to choose from. Plus the Mistral’s continuous dynamic effects wheel can be used in combination with the two gobo wheels to create unique graphical effects. A 15-blade iris diaphragm, a five-facet rotating prism and a soft-edge frost filter ensure Brock will never be short of some stunning looks.
