Drawmer 1979 1U CHANNEL STRIP

The new Drawmer 1979, a modern take on the classic channel strip that combines clarity, tone shaping, and vintage compression in a single 1U unit.

It delivers the transparency of an clean pre-amplifier, the natural control of Lift, the precision of a three-band parametric equalizer, and the warmth of a soft-knee FET compressor in a design to bring true analogue musicality to recordings.

The 1979’s pre-amplifier offers mic, line, and instrument DI inputs with up to 66 dB of stepped gain, allowing the capture of cleaner, more transparent recordings in addition to enhancing dull sources and refining instrument tone. Switched impedance matching helps optimize every microphone, from high-end condensers to ribbons and older dynamics.

First introduced on the 1972, Lift is a dynamic gain module that boosts quieter signals below 0 dB while leaving louder passages untouched, helping to reduce dynamic range without compression artifacts. It adjusts gain in real time for a smoother, more musical response, enhancing subtle details and balance without introducing noise or distortion.

The 1979 offers a variable, three-band parametric equalizer with ±12 dB of cut or boost and a switchable bandwidth control on the mid band. It excels at gentle tonal shaping as well as more surgical work to tame problem frequencies in a mix. The soft-knee FET compressor is designed to deliver smooth, musical control.

As with other Drawmer products, the engineer is in control. The signal path can be set as either Equalizer > Compressor or as Compressor > Equalizer, with each creating a distinctly different tonal quality and coloration.

The output section includes a wet/dry mix for parallel processing, allowing users to fine-tune how much EQ and compression is blended into the signal. Output gain provides make-up level or lets you match interface inputs with precision. A large backlit VU meter ensures accurate level monitoring, while a bypass switch disables both EQ and compression for a clean, direct pre-amplifier output.
