Ocean Alley is currently on their first national tour of Australia since 2018, with Lighting Designer Jake ‘Dutchy’ Bylsma and Systems Technician Sam Carroll at the creative and technical helms.
While the lighting design is underpinned by a few-dozen moving-head fixtures, it flaunts the pair’s ‘infinity mirror’ set-pieces which add a unique blend of depth, colour, and refraction to the stage. After considering many options, Sam chose DMXking LeDMX4 PRO to drive the LED pixel-tape within the mirrors. He required the ability to drive the units using two methods: Artnet/sACN on larger shows and direct DMX on smaller shows.
“What I like about the LeDMX drivers is the flexibility,” said Sam. “I’ve used a lot of different drivers before, but this one ticked all the boxes and had all the features I wanted.”
Sam also found that integrating the LeDMX4 Pro into his systems proved very simple, commenting that from both a hardware and software perspective, the unit allowed for easy wiring and quick loading of backup configuration files.
“If I really had to, I could swap a driver out mid-show in about three minutes, which is a lot of peace of mind when it comes to the size shows we’re doing.”
From the console side of things, Dutchy seems quite happy – “I just sent Artnet and it all worked from my end!”
