About us:
Theatre North Inc is a significant, not-for-profit, venue-based arts organisation in Launceston, providing leadership in the performing arts sector and supporting professional and community theatre. Theatre North manages the iconic Princess Theatre and the Earl Arts Centre for the City of Launceston and presents an annual program with funding support from the Tasmanian Government through Arts Tasmania.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and qualified person to be our Deputy Technical Manager, supporting the Technical Manager in all aspects of backstage operations and in providing leadership to the support crew. This position has delegated authority to act in the absence of the Technical Manager.
This is a key role with a varied range of responsibilities requiring sound working knowledge of Theatre North’s infrastructure, activities, projects and procedures. This includes taking responsibility for selected productions in the venues, mentoring and supporting staff, rostering crews, administration and minor maintenance tasks, as delegated by the Technical Manager.
Duties include:
- Supervision of all aspects of technical operations including the mounting of performances and other activities in the venues
- Setup and operation of lighting, sound, stage and audio-visual equipment
- Risk assessments and audits
- Ensuring high safety standards of equipment and operations
- Staff supervision and rostering
- Administration tasks e.g. show reports and time sheets
- Mentoring and skills development

Benefits:

- Base salary $56,470 per annum pro rata based on 30 hour week, plus penalties and superannuation

About you:
- Current Riggers’ ticket
- Competent in lighting operation, programming and busking
- Experienced operator of theatre lighting and sound software
- Operator of counterweight flying system
- Understanding of computer network configuration and troubleshooting
- Experience with AV / projection / live streaming
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Motivated to find solutions that deliver excellent outcomes
- Able to work autonomously, intuitively and to firm deadlines
- Strong work ethic, integrity and professionalism
- Mature and proactive contributor
- Great team leader and mentor
- Lifestyle compatible with evening shifts and flexible rosters
- Can provide evidence of COVID-19 vaccination or valid exemption
