THE ROLE
The Deputy Production Manager is a full-time position and a key member of the Ensemble Production team. The role reports to the Production Manager and works closely with the Production Manager and Technical Supervisor to deliver the Company’s productions and events at Ensemble and on tour. Under the supervision of the Production Manager, the role is also responsible for production managing an allocated number of productions each year. The role plays a key part in creating and implementing Work Health and Safety policies and procedures in collaboration with the Production Team and takes the lead on sourcing and creating props for productions and managing the Ensemble production storage facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support to the Production Manager to deliver the annual season of 10 – 11 plays, tours and extra events
- Assist delivery of all rehearsal, performance and event requirements including, but not limited to props sourcing and making, costing and procurement of materials.
- Support members of the creative team to facilitate the design and production process, as directed by the Production Manager.
- Planning and delivery of touring shows in collaboration with the Production Manager.
- Maintain Ensemble’s workshop, rehearsal spaces, storage facility and other resources as required and in collaboration with the Production department.
- Assist the Production Manager in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relevant to all technical and production areas.
- In collaboration with the Production Team plan the annual stock take or ad hoc maintenance as required for rehearsal spaces, theatre & storage spaces.
- Ensure a high level of Workplace Health and Safety best industry practice is followed at all times.
- Schedule and attend production meetings, technical, dress rehearsals and previews as required.
- Production Manage a minimum of two Ensemble Productions each season
- Archive records of each production at the end of each season.
- Maintain props, sets and costumes during the run of each production.
- Ensure all induction documentation and relevant policies are current and distributed to relevant staff, including casuals and seasonal staff.
- Manage operations of the Company storage facility including the hire of set, costume and prop items
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated 3 years’ experience within a professional Performing Arts Organisation or in a Freelance Production capacity
- Demonstrated leadership and creative problem-solving skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a small team
- Demonstrated creative skills including experience in props making and sourcing
- Basic construction knowledge and ability to use tools to construct simple props
- A broad knowledge of theatre production processes, including a sound understanding of staging and technical systems, rehearsals, and production week protocols
- Strong knowledge of work health and safety practices
- Excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude.
- Valid Driver’s licence. Ability to drive manual favourable.
- Willingness and flexibility to work extended hours as required.
- Knowledge and experience in CAD programs, particularly Vectorworks
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and other relevant software packages.
DESIRABLE
- Sound knowledge of theatre sound, lighting, and projection including experience using Qlab and ETC lighting consoles
- Knowledge of Environmentally sustainable practices in the workplace
- Good knowledge of theatrical costumes, including basic sewing skills
POSITION HOURS, REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
- Fulltime, 38 hours a Week
- Salary $65,000 – $70,000 based on experience, plus superannuation at 10.5%
- Due the nature of the position, there is a required degree of flexibility. Hours may include weekends and evenings and additional hours may be incurred during Production weeks. Overtime will be compensated for with Time in Lieu as per the award (Live Performance Award 2010)
- Leave entitlements include 20 days of Annual leave per year and 10 days personal leave per year
