Joining OA’s Technical division and reporting to the Head Flyman, you will be supporting the fly floor, stage machinery, and supervision of changes relating to the staging of the production. This role is integral to the smooth running of the production itself. The Deputy Head Fly position falls under Opera Australia Technical Staff Enterprise Agreement – Level 3 Supervisor classification. Total remuneration $105,602.23.
Key areas of focus
- Supervising the operations of productions including the implementation of procedures and techniques needed on the fly floor, and overseeing the maintenance of stage machinery
- Application of theatrical rigging techniques and organizing change overs, implementation of act changes, and supervision operations related to the staging of the production
- Have a general understanding and usage of carpentry techniques, metal fabrication, and use of related tools
- Develop and supervise the team by way of demonstration and explanation
- Maintain and purchase, or suggest alternatives to the materials and hardware needed for the production
- Complete detailed records and reports of notes on production, any changes or improvements, and scenery
Key Selection Criteria
- Have a Rigging High Risk Work License is required – intermediate or advances would be advantageous
- Advanced experience with rope access is preferred
- Familiarity with installation and operation of chain hoists
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- Ability to work well in both a team environment or independently
- Have an understanding of WHS practices
