coolux delivers a visually engaging event for RSL Hall of Fame Dinner

The RSL Hall of Fame Dinner held at the Sofitel Melbourne On Collins was a celebration to honour our brave men and women who have served our country.

Audio Visual Dynamics were honoured to supply the AV solution for the prestigious event including the seamless floor to ceiling projection, spanning a total of 36 metres across the front of the Grand Ballroom. The projection was a central focus point throughout the evening, not only showing photos of the Hall of Fame inductees, but also video and still photos of the history of the RSL. Combined with sponsor acknowledgement and live to screen imagery of the presentations and performances, the room was a buzz of excitement for all who attended.

The team at Audio Visual Dynamics is very proud of their development in the areas of projection mapping and content management required to deliver visually engaging events of this scope and creativity. This, combined with their extensive installation of moving lights and upgraded audio system in the Grand Ballroom led to a memorable night for all attendees.

Prior to the event Audio Visual Dynamics purchased a Pandoras Box Manager for real-time editing and playback control. This standalone software allows synchronization and remote control of all Pandoras Box media playback products via network.

Audio Visual Dynamics already owned a Pandoras Box Sever LT but for the The RSL Hall of Fame Dinner they sub-hired seven Pandoras Box Server PRO from Eleven Design in order to run a seven projector blend.

“We built the show entirely within the Pandoras Box Manager software and it was pretty straightforward,” commented George Giampetri, Content Manager and Vision Operator for the event. “If I had any questions, Simon Barrett from Show Technology was always on hand with the answers. I built half of the show on my laptop until it got too large and then I transferred it to our dedicated coolux machine.”

As soon as the Pandoras Box Server PRO media servers arrived from Sydney, the AVD team connected them all up and from there on it was a straightforward set up.

“It was as simple as upgrading the computer to the correct version, giving them the correct IP address and everything synced up straightaway,” said George. “From that point, it was a matter of transferring all the content and then aligning the projectors. One of the nice features of the Pandoras Box Server PRO is the keystoning which is easy to use and fast, a great way to get blends and alignments correct – especially when you have seven hard to reach projectors!”

George was also impressed by the ability offered to do live text input, very handy on a job where someone hasn’t turned up or a name has been spelt incorrectly.

“The Widget Designer is very good for putting all of your cues in on your laptop,” he added. “It’s also very customisable; you can use faders and bring up certain layers and that means you don’t need a lighting console to do all of that.

“Pandora upgrades have been coming along quite fast, keeping up with programmer’s expectations. The 5.7 is a great upgrade and really helped us out for that particular show. It’s very powerful.”
