Colour Me Brisbane has transformed Brisbane’s CBD into the ultimate after dark destination with a citywide interactive light and projection display across 32 sites and buildings until November 9.
Creative Director of Colour Me Brisbane, Jono Perry and Technical Producer, Paul Bearne have assembled an awesome team of projection designers including Craig Walsh, Rachael Johnston (Strictly & Lowdown), Peter Milne (the Electric Canvas), Andrew Gibbs (Human Creative) and Optikalbloc to produce stunning visuals and Son et Lumieres. Paint Your City is an interactive lighting project where the public get to choose the colour of 15 building facades across the city, 32 Hundred Lighting has delivered this extraordinary lighting project. Oracle Attractions have also developed a world first interactive laser display which gives the public the control of the colours and shapes on the façade of City Hall.
There is a large focus on celebrating the work of Queensland’s leading contemporary indigenous artists especially in the outdoor video gallery created by Craig Walsh with projection by TDC on the façade of QPAC. The works of Sally Gabori, Netta Loogatha, Fiona Foley, Judy Watson, Alick Tipoti, Danie Mellor, Vernon Ah Kee, Richard Bell, Naomi Hobson, Douglas Watkin and Mavis Ngallametta are all on display.
“The G20 Cultural Celebrations will showcase our amazing state not just to the international media and global leaders who are coming to Brisbane for the Leader’s Summit but also to the people of Queensland and Australia.” said Jono.
One of the highlights of Colour Me Brisbane is the soundtrack for The Changing Face of Brisbane Son et Lumiere. Opera Queensland and Queensland Symphony Orchestra have combined to record the soundtrack with Giuseppe Verdi’s most rousing Operatic tunes including The Triumphal March from Aida. On six nights the opera Queensland chorus sang the soundtrack live from the balconies of the Treasury Hotel.
The façade of the Magistrates’ Court building has come to life with a contemporary Son et Lumiere by projection designer Rachael Johnston who is working with unique mapping artist Megan Cope, Shaun Edwards of Wild Barra fame, two extraordinary Indonesian artists Agus and Syaiful as well as Chinese Australian contemporary Zhong Chen.
“We want to show off the city in its best light and make it look even better.” Perry said.
