Clay Paky Mythos cut through the Sydney NYE Fireworks!

The Sydney New Year’s Eve firework display is famous for lighting up the night sky in a riot of brilliantly coloured explosions that can be seen for miles around. Who would dare compete with such a display? The Clay Paky Mythos, that’s who!

Lighting designer Mark Hammer sourced his rig from PRG Australia with the Mythos fixtures sub hired from Crystal Productions.

“I was looking for a big beam effect for the back of the stage at the Lord Mayor’s party and decided to put some Sharpys there,” explained Mark. “However, I was at Show Technology telling Mike Gearin this when he showed me the Mythos and I thought it would be fantastic. We did a light test outside at Show Technology one night and they were amazing.”

Four Mythos were placed behind the stage at the Lord Mayor’s party with a further four Mythos around the stage at the VIP party held at Dawes Point.

“The Mythos are incredible,” commented Mark. “From the size of the light to the output they deliver – they’re awesome. The guys high up in the event control room couldn’t believe how bright they were. They looked fantastic when we were shooting gobos up into the haze.”

“They’re just so versatile, you could use them for anything. Whether it’s aerial effects or stage work, they’re fantastic. The Mythos has really filled some holes, yet also created its own niche.”

Also used on the stages were Sharpy Washes and Sharpy Profiles, and GLP impression X4s.
