Beyond Wonderland SoCal 2019, an electronic dance festival organized by Insomniac Events, was held last month in San Bernardino, California.
The festival strives to create unforgettable experiences driven by imagination and positivity, where music and art can inspire transformative moments around every corner.
For the ninth installment of Beyond Wonderland, the magic of Beyond featured immersive environments, costumed performers, massive state-of-the-art stages and a diverse programming with hosted stages by Bassrush, Dreamstate, Basscon, Insomniac Records, and mau5trap! Dance music’s most prominent artists, brand-new stage designs, eccentric, costumed characters, and stimulating art installations delivered a world of imagination where anything is possible.
Creative Design and Technical Direction for the Mad Hatter’s Castle was delivered by Matt Chromatic from NSW.
“We contributed by suppling an abstract ‘Absalom Revisited’,” explained Matt. “The temporary structure was a 46m wide, 22m high and 120m long arc pod style so rigging options and loads were a dream.”
The extruded “body” of Absalom comprised of five Tomcat framed 6x6m and one 10x10m 5mm LED screens and lighting sections. The video effects extended off into the Martin Sceptrons for detail. Long lines of truss lined with 164 Claypaky Sharpys were used to cast webs.
The rig included: 56 x Ayrton MagicBlade, 164 x Claypaky Sharpy, 48 x Martin MAC Quantum Wash, 48 x Robe Colourstrobe, 16 x 4-lights, 40 Martin VDO Sceptron, 2 x Martin MAC Viper with control by an MA Lighting grandMA3 and a grandMA2.
