About the Traineeship & Eligibility

Arts Centre Melbourne has four new career opportunities available for people with a passion for technical production in the performing arts.

The Technical Production Traineeship program is aimed at people who have not yet commenced their professional careers. We look for people who are keen to enter the industry and develop skills in theatre production by obtaining a Certificate III in Live Production & Services (CUA30415)

Arts Centre Melbourne are offering four positions for the 2020 Production Technical Traineeship program, one specific traineeship at Certificate III level per department; (Lighting) (Sound & Vision) (Staging) (Wardrobe). It is important that you focus on one area of interest; we understand people have broad interests but we need to know about your specialty. You will also need to satisfy our eligibility criteria:

Excellent presentation and communication skills.

Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia (for at least six months prior to applying).

Willing to commit to the traineeship agreement. Traineeship duration for 2020  is approximately 8 months for Cert III positions

You must not have completed a qualification equal to or above a Certificate III level in any similar technical production qualification. For example, completing a Cert III, Cert IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree in any technical production discipline will make you ineligible.

You must display a willingness to learn and commit to both the classroom based and on-the job training components for the entire duration of the Traineeship. These positions must take priority over any other commitments at all times.

How, when and where?

Trainees will be recruited throughout November/December 2019 and shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a group interview session and special tour of the venues in early December.

The successful applicants for the Certificate III roles in Lighting, Sound & Vision, Staging & Wardrobe will commence rostered work and learning activities at Arts Centre Melbourne from Tuesday 11th February 2020 to Monday 10th October 2020.

The traineeships include a combination of on and off-the-job learning as trainees work toward obtaining Qualifications at CUA30415: Certificate III in Live Production & Services (for the four main theatrical production disciplines).

All trainees will be employed 20 hours per week on a variable time (similar to part time) contract. Trainees will be supervised in the training/work environment and will gain required knowledge, skills & experience in relative areas of technical production, including Sound & Vision, Lighting Staging & Wardrobe.

Trainees will have an initial probationary period of six months, during which they will need to successfully complete two WH&S units of their course together with 2 core units. Following this, all trainees will continue to complete all other units from their qualifications throughout the designated traineeship period.

Trainees will commence on a rate of $22.19 per hour (Band 1.1) and after the probationary period the rate will be $23.91 per hour (Band 1.2). General terms and conditions of employment will be per the Arts Centre Melbourne Enterprise Agreement 2018.
