Celestion has announced the introduction of the new CF1230BMB 12-inch (305 mm) diameter ferrite magnet, cast aluminium chassis cone loudspeaker driver that’s suited for both bass and mid-bass applications.
The company states that the CF1230BMB is engineered for a longer throw than conventional mid-bass drivers, and thus produces more low-end when loaded into conventional two-way enclosures. The new driver is also suited to serve as a bass unit in compact subwoofer applications.
The CF1230BMB has a 75 mm copper-clad aluminium voice coil with a 700-watt continuous power rating and 96 dB sensitivity, with a stated output frequency range of 50 to 3,000 Hz. The elastomer surround is designed to enable a longer Xmax than other 12-inch mid-bass drivers, additionally allowing it to better reproduce lower frequencies. As the driver also performs smoothly up to 3 kHz, it’s also a qualified option for two-way designs with the extra advantage of solid low-frequency performance.
The CF1230BMB is equipped with Celestion’s smart airflow vented magnet assembly for dynamic heat dispersion to minimize power compression during operation, along with a modified T-pole magnet assembly to enhance performance through improved Bl symmetry, hence lower distortion.
Developed at Celestion’s headquarters in Ipswich, England, it’s been designed using specialist in-house software deploying FEA (Finite Element Analysis) modelling techniques, enabling the engineering team to achieve genuine increases in performance that translate into greater product longevity and lower distortion.
