Celestion Debuts TF0512HE Compact Mid-Bass Cone Driver

Celestion has announced the introduction of the TF0512HE, a new five-inch mid-bass cone driver designed to provide extended bass response in compact two-way studio monitors, small line arrays, low-profile in fill cabinets, bookshelf loudspeakers, and more.

A pressed steel chassis is designed to facilitate maximum energy transfer while keeping unit weight to 1.4 kilograms. It is stated as being able to handle up to 150 watts of continuous program power to pair well with high-output Class D amplifiers.

Kevlar loading adds stiffness and resilience to the lightweight paper cone to help keep sound free of distortion even at sustained high output. The cone is mounted within an Elastomer (elastic polymer) surround, designed to increase the limits of its excursion and thereby enhance bass response.

An inverted dust cap allows a phase plug to be centered close to the cone, making the TF0512HE well suited for horn-loaded cabinet designs meant to increase projection and perceived loudness in an acoustic space. It has a ferrite magnet and copper-clad aluminum voice coil, a combination designed to maximize performance while minimizing heat while contributing to an efficiency of 89.5 dB.

The driver’s 8-ohm nominal impedance helps deliver compatibility with a broad range of applications. Frequency response clocks in at a stated 55 Hz to 4 kHz, enabling the TF0512HE to serve as the primary woofer and midrange driver in a compact two-way system with or without enhancement via a separate subwoofer. At the same time, the extension into the higher midrange makes the TF0512HE a candidate for the middle driver in a three-way system in which frequencies below commonly used crossover points such as 500 or 250 Hz are handed off to a larger woofer.
