NIDA is Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, a centre of excellence in education and training for careers in theatre, film, television and other performance media. NIDA’s Theatres are comprised of six theatrical venues and an award winning foyer. We host, present and produce a diverse range of concerts, productions and events each year, ranging from corporate presentations through to NIDA’s own student driven productions.
What we’re looking for
NIDA’s Technical Operations department is currently seeking casual Theatre Technicians with specialist skills in Lighting, Staging, Sound and A/V to join their team.
Working individually and collectively as part of a small multi-disciplinary team, casual Theatre Technicians work to deliver concerts, play productions, corporate and special events to a professional standard, while maintaining customer service and expectation.
A minimum of two years professional experience in Audio, Lighting, Staging or AV is desirable for these positions, though some training can be provided for the right candidates.
Key Duties and Selection Criteria
Key duties of casual Theatre Technicians may include, but are not limited to:
- Installing and rigging lighting, sound, staging and AV equipment throughout the venues, including in the foyers and other designated spaces
- Assisting visiting technical crews and companies with bump in/out within the venues, foyers and other designated spaces
- Operating lighting, sound, staging and AV equipment for a variety of performance types
- Ensuring that all Workplace Health and Safety regulations are adhered to within the venue facilities, and that best industry practice is applied
- Communicating clearly and effectively with a wide range of clients, customers and staff
- A methodical and effective approach to problem-solving technical issues that arise
- Ensuring safe and efficient use of lighting, audio, staging and AV equipment
- Being able to work as part of a team and, if required, unsupervised. May also be required to manage other casual staff in delivery of events
- Operating all equipment under venue and safety guidelines
- Keeping technical areas clean and tidy, and free from hazards
- Other duties as required and directed by the Technical Manager, Assistant Technical Manager, or their delegate
- Working at heights and heavy lifting
