Casual Theatre Technician, Capitol Theatre and Sydney Lyric

As two of Sydney’s premier commercial theatres, the Capitol Theatre & Sydney Lyric are home to leading first class theatrical and concert events. An opportunity exists for an experienced theatre professional to join the Capitol Theatre and Sydney Lyric team as Theatre Technician on a causal basis
Responsibilities
Assist with the technical operations of the Capitol Theatre and Sydney Lyric
Completing technical, stage and general theatre  maintenance the theatres
Delivering theatre specific technical advice and services
Working closely with Senior Theatre Technicians to provide first class and professional technical services to clients
Liaison with production teams to deliver professional theatre operations
Safe operation of the truck lifts
Operation of technical and stage mechanical equipment in the theatres
Offer instructions and demonstration of the theatre equipment to hirers and their staff
Efficient and timely response to any unforeseen breakdown of equipment and to identify and remedy faults as quickly as possible
Ensure the theatres are maintained to the highest possible standard
Comply with all relevant legislation, standards, codes of practice, company policies and procedures
An appropriate standard of professional appearance in accordance with our grooming policy
Adminstration and security duties as required, including manning Stage Door if required
Other duties as required from time to time
Selection Criteria – Experience & Background
The ability to analyse, recommend and implement changes and improvements to technical theatre opertations
Extensive knowledge and experience in the setup, presentation and bump out of live theatre productions, concerts and corporate events
A high degree of enthusiasm, initiative and self motivaton
Well developed technical, communication and people skills
A  thourough understanding of best practice within the theatre industry
Proven ability to work well as in as part of a wider theatre team and also achieve goals independently
The ability to organise, plan and work to deadlines
Ability to work flexible hours as dictated by the schedule for each production.
Ability to interpret technical plans and specifications
Ability to work proactively and flexibly within both the Capitol Theatre and the Sydney Lyric
An appropriate professional standard of personal appearance
A basic understanding of IT software products typically employed in theatres including Microsoft Office– Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and  ability to read and understand CAD drawings
The ideal candidate will have several years experience in technical theatre operations and be ready to step up into a leading role in the theatre operations. Successful applicants will be well presented, have excellent communication skills and a strong customer focus. This is an opportunity for an energetic team player who seeks to join the team in two of Sydney’s most iconic theatres. General conditions of employment will be governed by the Live Performance Award.
