Casual Theatre Technician

We are currently seeking to appoint casual Theatre Technicians for the Civic Theatre, Newcastle

Working as part of a highly motivated and skilled team, you will  work as backstage crew across bump in/out, rehearsal, performance and maintenance calls, maintaining technical support of the highest standard to all Civic Theatre clients and ensuring a safe work place at all times.

To be successful in this job you will have:

Demonstrated understanding of theatre terminology and at least basic technical skills in lighting, audio, audio-visual and staging in a live performance venue.

Knowledge of stage safety including safe working at heights procedures.

Effective communication and liaison skills with the ability to solve straightforward problems using readily available information, including interpretation and understanding of theatrical plans and technical specifications.

Professional presentation.

Willingness to be responsible for work undertaken, and to conduct basic quality checks, and ability to exercise discretion within the employees’ level of skill and training.

Basic computer and keyboard skills

Proficiency in at least two of the following four technical areas:

the operation, maintenance, set up and control of lighting equipment and automated lighting systems including power and data distribution, communication management and console / fixture programming.

the operation, maintenance, set up of Audio Visual equipment and knowledge of projection and display equipment, protocol, format and data management.

the operation, maintenance, set up of sound systems including radio microphones and playback including experience in the operation of digital audio consoles.

understanding of theatre staging, fly systems and rigging, and the use of tools and equipment.
