Casual Technician

About City of Darebin
Located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne the City of Darebin has a population of 161,609. The city has one of the largest populations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents in metropolitan Melbourne and is home to one of the most diverse communities anywhere in the State. The City of Darebin makes a significant investment in the arts and creative sector operating two significant arts and cultural facilities the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre and Darebin Arts Centre. Both venues are known for delivering important, high-profile arts programs.

About the Role
This role forms part of the Operations and Technical Team that is responsible for all operational, technical and front of house support for Darebin City Council’s Arts Precincts including delivering performances and events.

This role is an extension of the venue’s Technical Team which is responsible for the delivery and oversight of all technical matters relating to the use of Arts Precincts facilities including, client liaison, provision of technical advice and support, customer service, workplace safety, maintenance and security of all centre’s technical equipment.

This role plays an essential part of the delivery of the Arts Program by providing direct technical support to artists and productions hosted in Arts Precincts facilities.

Duties
• Provide friendly, focused and flexible customer service to all internal and external clients
• Respond positively to clients, hirers and colleagues to deliver technical requirements
• Actively promote a positive team approach and professional culture at work
• Assist clients and hirers achieve optimum satisfaction levels for their performance or event
• Contribute to the smooth-running of events across the Arts Precincts

Skills & Experience
1. Demonstrated understanding of the production and technical operation of a live theatre or performing arts centre including operational skills in theatre Lighting, Sound & Staging, counterweight flying systems including rigging and dogging methodologies as they apply to flying scenery and other items
2. Previous experience in a ‘hands on’ capacity in a performing arts environment
3. Well-developed interpersonal skills and customer focused communication
4. Demonstrated capacity to work within small and flexible team environment
5. Demonstrated ability to work productively with a range of community and professional organisations
6. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, flexibility and commitment to safe working practices and procedures
