Casual Teacher, Lighting Design

As a TAFE Queensland  Teacher, you will contribute to developing and delivering quality learning services to a wide range of clients through:

  • Outcome focussed vocational education and training (VET) programs;
  • Linking with industry, schools, universities, other TAFE and VET providers;
  • Maintaining currency with industry practices, workplace delivery and contemporary teaching methodologies and philosophies; and
  • Working in an environment of change and continuous improvement.

This is a casual opportunity to teach approximately 4 hours per week for 10 weeks across Semester 2, 2019 (September to November 2019) unless otherwise determined.

This position reports to the Team Manager, within the Faculty of Creative Arts and Digital Design.

This position is based at the South Brisbane campus, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland Brisbane region campuses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Display teaching competence/ability to acquire teaching competence.
  • Lead and manage teaching and learning for the classroom, industry, distance and web-based clients.
  • Utilise flexible, blended and distributed learning techniques, options and products to meet the changing needs of various client groups.
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, client groups and staff by participating in team meetings, industry reference groups, student events and Regional forums.
  • Ensure that students/clients develop and practice accepted safety procedures in a learning environment.
  • Contribute to research and planning/programming, development, implementation and review of subjects/courses.
  • Participate in appropriate staff development programs to develop and maintain currency of personal and professional skills, knowledge and attitudes.
  • Develop and implement assessment processes and tools that meet occupational skills standards (i.e. endorsed components from National Training Packages) and participate in validation and moderation activities relating to assessment processes and practices.
  • Contribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative and Safety First.
  • Live a safety culture, lead by example and support the Health Safety and Environment Management System to create a TAFE Queensland Brisbane-wide safety culture.

How you will be assessed:

Within the context of the key responsibilities above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

  1. Possess knowledge of the education and training sector and the ability to positively respond to new directions and demands of the training market.
  2. Demonstrate capacity for best practice in teaching and learning activities (including delivery, assessment and evaluation) including the development of flexible/innovative learning options, products and solutions.
  3. Demonstrate ability to work effectively as a team member, with the capacity to accept, promote and manage change while utilising well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  4. Demonstrate commitment to self-development with the focus on qualifications/skills update and contemporary industry practices.
  5. Possess sound knowledge of safe, equitable and anti-discriminatory work practices and demonstrated ability to be flexible, responsive and deliver quality client service.

Mandatory Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • Vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed;
  • Possession of one of the following training and assessment credentials:
  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment; OR
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (including units TAELLN411 and TAEASS502 or equivalent); OR
  • An approved Diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.
  • Current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided;
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in production lighting;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in lighting control systems;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in lighting systems preparation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in lighting systems installation and removal in multiple venue environments;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in crew management;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in production logistics management;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in client management and stakeholder communication.
