Darebin Arts Centre is seeking experienced, motivated and solutions-focused casual Supervising Technicians who will be responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor to coordinate and facilitate technical requirements of event bookings, as well as maintain and update venue technical equipment, software and associated paperwork. The casual Supervising Technician position is a role of the Operations and Technical Team that is responsible for all operational, technical and front of house support for the Arts Precincts activities, including performances and events. The Technical team is responsible for ensuring all technical aspects of the venue and equipment are maintained and improved in line with procurement policies and industry standards, and to facilitate all technical and production-related operational duties for events at the highest professional standards
Duties:
- Provide friendly, focused and flexible customer service to all internal and external clients
- Respond positively to clients, hirers and colleagues to deliver technical requirements of events efficiently and successfully
- Actively promote a positive team approach and professional culture at work
- Contribute to the smooth-running of events across the Arts Precincts facilities
- The incumbent may occasionally be rostered as a casual technician, band 3 role, in line with event requirements of specific productions and staff availability.

- Technical competence in all technical discipline areas of live performance industry

- Carry out lighting duties including rigging, focusing, patching, desk operation and follow spot operation and associated paperwork
- Carry out staging and mechanical duties including set construction, painting, flying and associated paperwork
- Carry out audio visual duties including set up and operation of audio-visual systems and associated paperwork
- Under supervision assist with and carry out maintenance on buildings and equipment
- Assist with bump-ins and bump-outs ensuring the tasks are completed efficiently and with due care
- Assist with the setting up of foyers and other spaces within Arts Precincts facilities for general activities, as required
- Maintain technical operational records (daily reports, equipment usage, risk assessment checklists etc) for productions and events, as required
- Perform such duties as may be reasonably required of a Theatre Technician as directed Staffing
- Undertake duties of Supervisor when rostered or directed and when undertaking supervisory duties, ensure all human resource policies and procedures are equally applied to staff
- Supervise Casual Technical staff as required Workplace Safety
- Understand the City of Darebin’s and Arts Precincts workplace safety procedures, for which training will be provided
- Actively promote best practice in the area of OH&S responsibilities, including Child Safety policies and legislation
- Ensure equipment is used within the manufacturer specifications
- Maintain the safety, cleanliness and security of the building whilst working
- Immediately report any safety-related, risk or OH&S issues
- Ensure compliance to relevant OH&S, council or DAC operational policies or procedures First Aid Activities
- Undertake the role of Occupational First Aid Officer (OFAO) where required to administer First Aid to members of the public who may be injured or unwell whilst receiving Council services or while using Council facilities. Training will be provided once the incumbent’s current certificate has expired.
Other
- The position will be required to work evenings, after hours and on weekends as rostered.
- The position may be required to work across the Art Precincts facilities
- Other duties as directed within the skills and capabilities of a position at this level.
