Overview of the position
We are looking to appoint a number of casual AV Technicians/Live Operators to support live events and programs returning to the MCA.
The primary focus of the role is to support events with AV requirements. These events may include public programs, artist talks, guided tours, film screenings, live performances and music performances for a variety of audiences and patrons.
The position sits within the IT team, reports to the IT Services Manager and will work closely with the full-time AV Technician. The position liaises with departments across the MCA on AV requirements including Audiences and Creative Learning, Exhibition Services and Corporate Partnerships.
Tasks and responsibilities of the position
Mixing live acts, performances, talks and artists.
Setting up, bumping in and out of events.
Operating MCA’s lecture theatre / projectors.
Installation and setup of audio, video and media equipment.
Supporting hybrid (streamed) live events.
Key selection criteria
Essential criteria
Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have:
a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role and/or relevant qualifications
demonstrated experience with manual handling and heavy lifting techniques
Audio Technology knowledge including recording and wireless systems
basic IT knowledge (Windows and Mac OS)
experience working on live events
experience using digital and analog mixers
the ability to stay calm under pressure and respond to changing circumstances
excellent communication and interpersonal skills
the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently
availability to work nights and weekends.
Desirable criteria
It would be desirable if applicants have:
experience with lighting, video display and projection
experience with AV/IT integration
sound and/or video editing experience
experience with hybrid events
EWP Yellow Card.
Terms and conditions of employment
This is a casual position reporting to the IT Services Manager. Hours will vary depending on weekly business needs; each shift will be a minimum of four (4 hours) or two (2) hours for designated training shifts. Work out of normal hours (9am – 5.30pm) will be required to cover the MCA’s exhibitions, events and programs.
