Technical Manager – Bluey’s World Brisbane

Reporting to: General Manager, Technical Director, Technical Production Manager

Reporting to you: Technical 2IC, Technical Systems Specialist, Technical Supervisors, Technical Specialists, Technical Crew, Production Crew, Technical Installers, Production Contractors, Technical Operators

Rate of Pay: $88,500 p/a Start Date: 2 June 2025

General Duties

Operational Support & Teamwork:

–        Assist colleagues with tasks when required, even outside your primary role.

–        Support other technical and production departments during peak periods.

–        Contribute to problem-solving that maintains operational continuity.

–        Help with venue setup, resets, and maintenance procedures when needed.

–        Demonstrate flexibility to support overall technical operations.

–        When designated as the final manager on site, take responsibility for venue power-down and secure lockup procedures as trained by the site management team.

Documentation & Reporting:

–        Complete required technical logs, maintenance records, and reports accurately.

–        Document technical issues, solutions, and workarounds appropriately.

–        Provide clear technical handover information between shifts.

–        Follow established protocols for incident reporting and hazard identification.

–        Maintain accurate records of equipment status, maintenance, and repairs.

Specific Responsibilities

The following responsibilities outline the key areas this role will focus on. These areas may evolve as the needs of the organisation develop, but represent the core functions of the position.

Operational Leadership & Performance Standards:

–        Implement the technical vision and standards as established by the Technical Production Manager and Technical Director.

–        Maintain performance standards and accountability measures across all technical areas.

–        Apply quality control systems to ensure consistent show quality and visitor experience.

–        Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

–        Recommend opportunities for technical enhancements based on operational experience.

–        Monitor performance metrics and report against established targets.

–        Ensure all technical systems deliver reliable, high-quality performance seven days a week.

Team Leadership & Management:

–        Lead and develop the technical team according to established structures and guidelines.

–        Ensure consistent technical standards and practices across all operating days.

–        Implement performance management systems to identify and address issues promptly.

–        Maintain effective communication between technical teams and shifts.

–        Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.

–        Coordinate training activities to address skill gaps and build team capabilities.

–        Support succession planning to ensure operational continuity.

–        Provide clear direction to the Technical 2IC and Technical Systems Specialist.

Operational Oversight & Quality Control:

–        Apply established quality control processes for all technical elements.

–        Use verification systems to ensure tasks are completed to required standards.

–        Implement troubleshooting protocols and manage escalation procedures.

–        Review operational reports and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities.

–        Execute preventative maintenance programs to minimise system failures.

–        Maintain operational redundancies for critical technical systems.

–        Apply established handover protocols between shifts for operational continuity.

Budget Management & Resource Utilisation:

–        Manage technical department budgets within approved parameters.

–        Implement budget compliance measures across all technical areas.

–        Optimise resource allocation to meet operational requirements efficiently.

–        Follow established procurement processes to ensure value and quality.

–        Contribute to capital expenditure planning for technical systems.

–        Identify and implement cost optimisation opportunities without compromising quality.

–        Maintain accurate tracking of all technical expenditures.

–        Provide financial reporting as required by the Technical Production Manager.

Workspace & Infrastructure Management:

–        Maintain workspace layouts for technical efficiency and safety.

–        Apply standards for workspace organisation, cleanliness, and accessibility.

–        Oversee tracking and maintenance of technical equipment and tools.

–        Contribute to infrastructure planning to support operational requirements.

–        Implement security and access protocols for technical areas and equipment.

–        Ensure all technical workspaces comply with safety regulations and best practices.

–        Apply established systems for workspace management and maintenance.

Documentation & Knowledge Coordination:

–        Apply comprehensive documentation standards across the technical department.

–        Maintain knowledge management systems for critical technical information.

–        Implement protocols for documenting technical changes, issues, and resolutions.

–        Ensure compliance with record-keeping requirements.

–        Facilitate information sharing across technical teams and shifts.

–        Maintain technical manuals and reference materials for all systems.

–        Follow change management documentation processes.

System Maintenance & Technical Coordination:

–        Execute the technical roadmap as established by the Technical Production Manager.

–        Apply testing and verification protocols for all technical changes.

–        Implement integration processes for technical systems and components.

–        Maintain system redundancy and backup protocols for critical infrastructure.

–        Operate performance monitoring systems for all technical elements.

–        Apply technical specifications and standards for system maintenance.

–        Implement upgrade procedures with minimal operational disruption.

Venue-Wide Technical Systems Management:

–        Oversee the management and maintenance of all venue-wide technical systems beyond show-specific equipment.

–        Ensure proper integration and operation of Point of Sale systems, ticketing infrastructure, and retail technology.

–        Maintain oversight of GoPhoto capture towers and associated photo processing equipment.

–        Coordinate management of networking infrastructure, Wi-Fi systems, and general connectivity throughout the venue.

–        Ensure adequate maintenance and operation of venue CCTV and security systems.

–        Oversee inventory management and maintenance of 2-way radio communication systems.

–        Coordinate technical support for performers’ equipment including portable microphones and audio systems.

–        Supervise the management of general venue lighting, electrical systems, and infrastructure.

–        Develop protocols for maintenance and troubleshooting of all non-show technical systems.

–        Delegate appropriate responsibilities for venue systems to the Technical 2IC and Technical Systems Specialist.

–        Ensure appropriate training for technical staff on all venue technical systems.

–        Coordinate with Operations and Retail departments regarding their technical requirements.

–        Implement reporting systems for tracking the performance of venue technical infrastructure.

–        Maintain budget allocations for venue-wide technical systems within overall technical department budget.

Risk Management & Compliance:

–        Apply risk management frameworks for all technical operations.

–        Implement safety protocols and verification systems for technical activities.

–        Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.

–        Manage incident reporting and investigation procedures.

–        Execute emergency response protocols for technical failures or incidents.

–        Apply risk assessment processes for technical changes or maintenance.

–        Conduct regular audits to verify safety and compliance standards.

Cross-Departmental Coordination:

–        Maintain effective communication channels between technical and other departments.

–        Participate in collaborative processes for addressing cross-departmental challenges.

–        Implement protocols for integrating technical operations with other areas.

–        Attend regular cross-functional meetings to coordinate activities.

–        Utilise established escalation paths for resolving interdepartmental issues.

–        Provide reporting on technical status to stakeholders as required.

–        Maintain strong working relationships with all department heads.

–        Align technical operations with overall visitor experience objectives.

Project Implementation & Maintenance:

–        Apply established project management methodologies for technical implementations.

–        Maintain accountability systems for project delivery and quality.

–        Execute projects according to approved scopes, timelines, and resource allocations.

–        Implement effective project communication and reporting processes.

–        Apply testing and commissioning protocols for technical installations.

–        Follow verification procedures to ensure projects meet required specifications.

–        Conduct post-implementation reviews to capture lessons learned.

Dark Day & Maintenance Management:

–        Execute comprehensive maintenance schedules for all technical systems.

–        Implement dark day priorities to maximise productivity during non-operating periods.

–        Apply maintenance verification protocols to ensure quality of completed work.

–        Liaise with external contractors for specialised maintenance requirements.

–        Maintain systems to track maintenance history and identify recurring issues.

–        Implement preventative maintenance programs for equipment and systems.

–        Manage maintenance resources to ensure operational reliability.
