A few months ago the savvy people of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre’s lighting department decided it was time to invest in new follow spots. Their initial criteria were that the follow spots had to be able to deliver a constant colour temperature over a distance and basically provide a similar performance as their large, aging Xebex spots.
“Our inhouse follow spots were pretty old and so we trialed a few different manufacturer’s follow spots,” commented Michael Kelly, lighting production supervisor at BCEC. “The Robert Juliat follow spots were the definite winner.”
As a result of their intensive research, two Robert Juliat Victor and two Aramis follow spots were purchased by the BCEC lighting department.
“I really like the inbuilt colour correction and frost,” continued Michael. “I also find the gel frame system better where it hangs on the front. They’re portability is also a plus; being able to easily pack them down and move them to another room is convenient. They’re also easy to set up and work with as well as being a quieter unit than we’re used to.”
The Robert Juliat follow spots are used on just about every event that passes through the BCEC and Michael reports that his crew loves the fact that they are easier to use and are nicely weighted.
