When a school in Sydney required a lighting system for their school events, they turned to Action Sound. The system needed to not be too complex so that the students and teachers could easily operate it, however, they wanted a degree of versatility for the variety of events held by the school.
Peter Meredith of Action Sound says that they have had several warm white ShowPRO LED Fresnels in their hire inventory for the past six years and that they have been rock solid. Consequently, he didn’t hesitate in recommending four warm white ShowPRO LED Fresnels as well as four colour ShowPRO LED Fresnels to the school.
“They’re workhorses for us so I knew what I was going to get from them,” he said. “I also knew that if they wanted to supplement their rig, we could offer more from our hire inventory.”
The LED Fresnel HP HD W/W DMX Zoom is comparable to a 2000w traditional Fresnel. Ultra-smooth dimming and silent motorised zoom provide flexibility for a wide range of applications.
“I had used the colour LED Fresnels once before and I was impressed with the colours that they could deliver,” commented Peter. “They have a nice colour spectrum, with some great vibrant colours plus the output is nicely even.”
Twelve ShowPRO LED PAR Quad-18 were added to colour-wash the stage and to give the students the ability to run effects such as chases. Consisting of 18 x Quad-Colour RGBW 8Watt LEDs this fixture can cover a large range of the colour spectrum including quality pastels, whites warm and cool.
“The LED Pars are great eye candy and make it look like a show.” added Peter. “We then suggested four ShowPRO LED CYC2 RGBAL to be situated along the back of the stage. I hadn’t used them before but they’ve been great. I looked at the ShowPRO range again as I’ve always been impressed with the products. It prices well and is reliable. I needed to add something to the back wall because they’ve got such a huge white back wall, it’s a blank canvas. The four cyc lights fill it up nicely and I was impressed by them. They too have great colours and are simple to rig.”
For control, a Zero 88 FLX S24 was chosen along with Theatrelight power and DMX distribution. The Zero 88 FLX S24 is a powerful LED and moving light controller in a small 19” unit with direct access to each of the lights in your rig. The Zero 88 FLX S24 is the ideal console for students and teachers to use due to its ease of use whilst still delivering plenty of power.
“You can get complex with the console if you choose to but you can also keep it quite simplistic at the same time,” commented Peter. “I was quite impressed! Janis from Show Technology put me onto all the online Zero88 user guides which are very intuitive. I watched them one night at home, and the next day, walked up to the console and straightaway it made sense. The videos are great for the students to learn from.”
A TheatrelightNZ DB-Pack 12-way power distribution power supply was supplied along with a Theatrelight RDM8 RDM splitter to send data to the three lighting bars in the room.
Peter remarks that he is always happy dealing with Show Technology adding that Janis is always available to chat about different projects and ideas, and this one was no exception.
“He was very helpful right from the start when I showed him a few photos of the hall and what they were trying to achieve,” he said. “I knew I wanted to use LED fixtures and I was looking for products in a particular price range and Janis guided me in the right direction. I was really happy with the suggestions he gave me and the support along the way, I couldn’t fault his or Showtech’s service.”
