Located on the rooftop of The Star with panoramic views over Sydney Harbour and the city skyline, the Event Centre is a multi-purpose venue suitable for a wide variety of events. The venue’s technical production consists of not only the highest quality of equipment, but also delivers a world class standard through the expertise of their technicians.
The venue has recently upgraded its aging spot luminaires to a dozen Ayrton Ghiblis after an extensive search for the ideal LED spot with a shutter kit, decent zoom range and exciting gobos.
“We looked at other fixtures but settled on the Ghibli as it offered so many features for its cost,” commented Kurtis Hammer, Head of Lighting at Star Events Centre. “It really is an incredible fixture that lacks very little, if anything.”
Kurtis remarked that he was particularly impressed by the gobos offered by the Ghibli which has two gobo wheels and a good choice of stock gobos. The selection of gobos and colours was made in collaboration with lighting designers to meet the needs of the entertainment industry.
“It also has a very flat field with no hot spot, which is especially important in a framing shutter fixture, and means that gobo projections are crisp all the way to the edge of the beam,” he added. “The shutter kit is easy to use with very fast framing, the dimming is even, and the colours are lush.”
The proprietary optical system, equipped with a 137 mm frontal lens, has 13 high-quality lenses, delivering an 8:1 zoom ratio and a zoom range of 7° to 56°.
“We often use our Ghiblis as a stage wash for many of our conferences which saves us a lot of time because we were using conventional zooms before,” said Kurtis. “Really, what’s not to like about the Ghibli?”
