The State Theatre Company of South Australia’s production of The 39 Steps, is a silly spoof on Hitchcock’s classic thriller, where four actors perform 139 roles in 100 minutes at breakneck hilarity. Equal parts farce, clowning masterclass, and heart-stopping noir, this was one of the hottest shows to hit Adelaide in years.
Gavin Norris, State Theatre’s Production Manager, designed the lighting and was delighted to include Novatech’s Ayrton Diablo Profile fixtures into his rig.
“I was very impressed with the fixture overall,” he remarked. “The Diablo has great light output, smooth and excellent shutter assembly, good optics and zoom range and very smooth dimmer curve and excellent when used at low levels. It was a very reliable fixture to have in the design of The 39 Steps.”
Gavin commented that the most incredible feature was the Diablo’s overall size and weight adding that to have something of this size do what it can, makes it a very useful fixture to have in any design.
“I think due to its size and relatively quiet operation, the Diablo will serve the theatre industry very well but I can also see it used in events and concerts,” added Gavin.
Theatre lighting designers worldwide are praising the Diablo’s framing system which allows accurate positioning of its four shutter blades on a 100% surface area in all positions so that the user can frame any object regardless of the luminaire’s position.
Novatech Creative Event Technology recently invested in 24 Ayrton Diablo which straight away was earning their keep, with initial feedback from both customers and Novatech staff extremely positive.
