AV-PS Rings in New Year with CHAUVET Professional

After a massive 2017, on the back of five years of full house turnouts, North Wollongong Hotel hosted Illawarra’s biggest New Year’s Eve party. The event hosted some of the biggest names in electronic music headlined by Timmy Trumpet with other acts including Savage, Some Blonde, Jaysounds, Krude. The event set up including 3 stages, 10+ acts, 8 bars and a sound and lighting set up that rivaled a music festival.

The impressive lighting rig on the mainstage was all provided by Audio Visual Production Services.  Audio Visual Production Services mainstage lighting design consisted of all CHAUVET Professional fixtures including 24x Maverick MK1 Hybrid’s, 12 x Maverick MK2 Washes, 4 x STRIKE 4 way LED Blinders and 4 x Vesuvio RGBA fog machines.

The Maverick MK1 Hybrids were the star of the show placed on the above truss across the stage according to Sean Keaveny, Managing Director of AV-PS, “The Maverick MK1 Hybrid gives us a world of options.” “These include advanced optics, overlapping 8 and 4-facet prisms, a versatile gobo package, a 3° – 18° zoom range in spot mode and 19° – 41° in wash mode, and a robust CMY color system. “The hybrid is powered by a 440 W Osram Sirius reflector lamp, this supercharged hybrid was able to give the show some stunning output and effects.” Sean continued, “The fast and precise movement of pan and tilt functions were also a highlight and the variable CMY colour mixing and static colors helped us to create a wide range of colour options.”

In combination with the MK1 Hybrids, the Maverick MK2 Washes were used for front and cross wash across the stage. “We have had the Maverick MK2 Wash in our inventory for a while and it performed flawlessly once again for the NYE event,” stated Sean. “Its punchy Osram RGBW LEDs provided the stage with incredibly saturated wash effects to paint the venue with a variety of colours. The lens design makes a big difference, because it means that the MK2 Wash’s colour blend and the sharpness are unmatched. Plus, the 7°- 49° zoom range makes these fixtures extremely flexible which was key with many different artists performing throughout the night.”

To round out the lighting rig was the STRIKE 4 Blinders and Vesuvio RGBA. Powered by four 100W COB warm white LEDs with a total illuminance of 999 lux at 5 meters, the STRIKE 4 fixtures are critical to delivering the intensity to each artist set. “The STRIKE 4s were used as strobes and blinders throughout the show,” said Sean. “In some songs, we deploy just one of the four cells in each fixture, while in others we have every cell on full blast. It all depends on the music.

The Vesuvio RGBA fixture was utilised for illuminated fog effects to fill the event space. “Sending colorful plumes of water-based fog high in the air, the Vesuvios immersed the stage in colored clouds at key moments throughout the event,” with the fog adding a great deal of impact,” said Sean

With the powerful CHAUVET Professional fixtures in action for the NYE Party at the North Wollongong Hotel thanks to Audio Visual Production Services, the event was a huge success and helped in creating a vibrant atmosphere for Illawarra’s biggest NYE Party with fantastic colour and looks.
