The new active dynamic OD5 and true condenser OC7 mics from Austrian Audio are designed specifically for instrument miking. Both are cardioid designs handmade in Vienna and feature 2-stage bass roll-off filters, switchable -10 dB pads and a unique mount that allows the capsule to swivel 220° for ease in placement, especially in tight quarters.
An active-dynamic circuit in the OD5 ensures that even long cable runs have no negative effect on the signal. In addition, the active-dynamic design allows the integration of a proper high-pass filter. As a versatile instrument mics, the OD5 will find many uses — on various drums, guitar amplifiers, as well as on wind instruments.
The heart of the new OC7 condenser microphone is the OCC7 small-diaphragm capsule, also handmade in Vienna. The OC7’s open and transparent sound makes it ideally suited for use on instruments that have particularly lively transients, including all kinds of percussion instruments (including snare drums and toms), piano, acoustic guitar but also string instruments.
