Eighth Day Sound supplied audio for the Australia Day celebrations at the Sydney Opera House and Circular Quay.
“It’s a very noise sensitive site and so we deploy the cardioid d&b KSL system to contain any spill,” said Damo Pryor. “We had d&b KSL boxes on the main hangs and sides, SL subs, Y10P for fills and Y10P for distributed PA around the Quay.”
Control was all DiGiCo on the latest software and fibre loop. FOH operator was Will King, FOH Systems Tech was Tristan Johnson and the legend Steve May mixed monitors whilst Boz mixed the Orchestra on the Hear Back Pro System.
Every artist had their own IEMs for Covid safety whilst Aviom was used on the band.
“All mics need to have a windsock and we use fluffies on most DPA mics,” added Damo. “We had Shure and Sennheiser requests from artists and quite a few requests for artist’s own IEM and HH RF systems which are to be expected at the moment.
“The show itself has a lot of content and different audio complexities even with ad breaks there is a lot for the operators to be on top of. They did a great job this year, as did all the audio techs.”
Several Covid mitigation measures were in place including a Covid cleaning station on stage, extra parking so the crew can travel in their own vehicles and Eighth Day Sound used a local hotel for some staff so they could walk to and from the site for rehearsals and the show.
