Auditorium Technician

Our School is seeking a driven and enthusiastic Auditorium Technician to support the day-to-day operations of the school’s performing arts centre, including our state-of-the-art auditorium.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the technical production of all events, including lighting design and programming, sound, staging, multimedia and projection. 

This ongoing position is a full-time role and involves frequent evening, late night and weekend work. Start date by negotiation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing technical assistance for internal events including Assemblies, Productions, ceremonies and concerts in the auditorium. 
  • Providing technical assistance for external events including dance shows, musical productions, and general venue hire. 
  • Bumping in stage lighting, audio and vision systems.
  • Building of staging, sets and props, basic rigging of stage drapery.
  • Ringing out and operating audio, video and lighting systems aligned to high production standards. 
  • Working with and mentoring student technicians to assist with the running of daily events.
  • Undertaking daily maintenance of building infrastructure ensuring the building is always clean, tidy and operational, reporting any issues to Centre Manager.
  • Physically demanding reconfiguring auditorium layout, at short notice 

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Experience in a similar role handling technical equipment (audio, lighting and audiovisuals). 
  • Extensive experience in live sound mixing (preferably using the Allen & Heath SQ-7 desk as well as analogue sound desks).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm and creativity. 
  • Committed and collaborative team player.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical systems under pressure and problem-solve. 
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Good keyboard and data entry skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • A qualification in Technical Theatre at tertiary level.
  • Previous experience working in a school environment.
  • Conversant with the MA lighting consoles.
  • Applied First Aid and CPR certificate.
  • Test and Tag Certification.
