Assistant Theatre Technician, Scotch College

Scotch College is a major independent school for 1850 boys P-12. The College is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill this permanent full-time position in the James Forbes Academy performing arts centre as a member of the School’s Drama department.
The applicant will have a basic to moderate knowledge in all technical aspects of theatre. This position would suit a theatre production graduate or an industry experienced person looking to expand skills. Others interested in starting a career in the industry are also encouraged to apply.
Whilst taking on the role of Assistant Technician you will be operating under the supervision of the Theatre Manager who will be available to guide and answer technical and venue specific questions that may arise. In time the Assistant Technician will occasionally deputise for the Theatre Manager during events.
The following experience would be desirable:
Lighting Lighting setup and control
Sound Basic sound setup and operation
Staging Experience with safe staging operation applications ~An understanding of all theatrical departments
Fly Operation A good understanding of a counterweight flying system
AV Audio visual operation and troubleshooting
Certificate III or IV in Live Production, Theatre and Events
Testing and Tagging, elevated work platform and rigging tickets would also be desirable
Thorough knowledge and the application of the relevant Occupational Health & Safety Regulations is essential.
In addition to the technical aspects of the role, theatre housekeeping including general maintenance and equipment storage/organisation will also be required. The ‘venues’ you will be required to supply technical assistance to, are a 434 seat theatre with a full fly tower and a 500 seat music auditorium.
As this position is situated within a school environment, it is important that the applicant has excellent personal communication skills with a strong understanding of maintaining a safe work environment. A working with children check will need to be obtained prior to commencement.
Applicant’s response must include two industry-based referees and one personal referee.
The successful applicant will need to be able to work well as a member of a team and independently.
Core hours are 9.00 am to 5.30 pm five days per week although regular weekend and evening work will be required at times.
