Our Exhibitions and Collections Operations department regularly requires the services of Assistant Exhibitions and Collections Technicians to support the permanent team through the moving, handling, packing, mounting, lighting, installing and de-installing of artworks and display support material for a range of exhibitions, collection displays, collection management activities and programs.
To be an effective member of the Exhibitions and Collections Operations team, you must be able to demonstrate a proven experience and sound knowledge of the technical methods of art handling and lighting exhibitions to international museum and conservation best practice standards, along with the ability to acquire new knowledge, skills, and techniques, as required.
It is essential that the applicant be familiar with a wide variety of tools, materials and installation hardware necessary for the display, storage, handling and lighting of art works. Experience in mount making, silver solder and/or welding experience would be advantageous. The possession of a current class “LF” Work Cover forklift license, a scissor lift operating ticket, an endorsed truck licence and a current Australian drivers licence and/or a rigging ticket would be advantageous.
The lifting and movement of heavy objects is an inherent requirement of these positions, therefore the preferred candidates will be required to undergo a functional pre-employment assessment.
