Armor Cases Unveils Custom Road Case for DiGiCo SD9 Console

Armor Cases, a Sydney-based manufacturer specialising in protective transport cases for professional audio, lighting, and vision equipment, has released a new custom road case designed specifically for the DiGiCo SD9 mixing console. This release responds to continued demand from production companies, venues, and freelance audio professionals for purpose-built, high-quality cases that provide durability, efficiency, and practicality in day-to-day use.

The DiGiCo SD9 is a popular console in the touring and production landscape, known for its performance, versatility, and reliability in live audio environments. With its growing presence across theatres, concert venues, and events, there is a clear need for a transport solution that protects the investment while supporting fast setup and pack-down in the field. Armor Cases has designed and manufactured a road case that meets this need, taking into account the real-world working conditions and standards expected by experienced users.

The case features a lift-off lid format choice that provides clear access to the console from all sides and simplifies workflow during operation. This design is particularly suited for users who prefer to work directly from the case without the need to move or repose the equipment. The lid is secured with robust hardware and once removed, allows full and immediate access to the SD9 surface.

One of the defining features of this new case is the use of 12mm birch veneer plywood, a material well regarded for its balance of strength and weight. Combined with high-quality Penn Elcom hardware, the case delivers structural integrity and long-term resistance to the wear and tear of touring use. Every panel, joint, and edge has been carefully constructed to endure frequent load-ins and outs, rigging, and transit across varied environments.

Attention to internal layout and cable management is also a key part of the case’s design. A standout feature is the integrated dog box located at the rear of the console space. This compartment provides a practical and accessible area to manage and store cabling during use and transit. Whether routing power leads, audio multicore, or network lines, the dog box allows cables to remain connected and tidy, reducing setup time and minimizing cable strain.

Beneath the mixer platform, the case includes a general-purpose storage compartment. This section is useful for carrying items such as power supplies, spares, tools, or accessories commonly used in conjunction with the SD9. Keeping these essentials within the same case ensures nothing is forgotten on the way to a job and supports faster deployment on site.

Mobility is another area where the case supports professional users. The base is equipped with four heavy-duty castors, making it easy to move the case across stage areas, truck ramps, and uneven terrain. The castors are specified to handle the weight of the console and the case itself while maintaining smooth operation even under full load. Two of the castors are lockable to provide stability when in place.

For labelling and tracking, the case is fitted with a recessed label dish on the exterior. This feature makes it easier for crews to identify the case in storage or transit and supports asset management for companies with large inventories. As with all Armor Cases products, there is scope for further customization depending on the client’s requirements, including company branding, additional labelling, or alternate internal configurations.

The release of this new case underlines Armor’s ongoing commitment to producing transport solutions that combine functionality, reliability, and build quality. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, Armor Cases continues to work closely with the needs of production professionals, responding to specific equipment formats with well-considered and precisely engineered case designs.
