Usher has followed the release of his new album Versus with the OMG Tour, his first big-budget spectacle since 2004, which is currently touring Australia.
The rig is designed by Peter Morse with Eric Wade acting as design associate and lighting director. It’s an eclectic rig with fixtures from a wide variety of manufacturers: 50 x VL3500 Wash, 30 x VL3000 SPOT, 8 x VL3500 FX, 10 x MAC2000 Wash, 36 x Clay Paky Sharpy, 6 x High End Studio Beam PC, 6 x SYNCROLITE B-53, 3 x SYNCROLITE 10K, 3 x PRG CMY Bad-Boy Spots, 36 x Pixelline 110, 22 x 4-LITER STRIP and 36 x JB-LED A7 Zoom.
Usher’s futuristic, high-concept show presented a complex challenge for Morse Wade. “We had to design around a lot of fly gags and moving set pieces,” notes Wade, who heads FOHShow, a lighting services company. “The rig is designed to look big but not be completely massive; it’s large but not over the top. It fills two trucks and features between 160-200 fixtures.”
Eric has kindly agreed to conduct a tour of the Usher rig this Friday April 1st.
