ALIA Tour to CATS – The Musical, Sydney

CATS is the best-known and best-loved musical the world has ever known, holding the record of the longest-running musical in West End history having played for 21 years. In addition CATS played 18 years on Broadway and has been presented in over twenty-six countries, in about three hundred cities, in ten languages.

CATS first opened in London in May 1981 to rave reviews and went on to win a record-breaking number of awards worldwide including two Olivier Awards for ‘Musical of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Musicals’ and seven Tony Awards.

This version of CATS has been touring Australia and Asia for the last five years including trips to China 3 times, Korea 4 times, Taiwan 3 times, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, currently in Australia with dates in Manilla and Taiwan (again !!) later in the year. The rig includes Martin MAC2000 Spots with a mixture of standard and custom gobos, VL 2000 wash, ETC Source IV’s, PAR64 cans, Robert Juliat follow spots, Strand Beamlite follow spots, Martin Atomic Strobes and Unique Hazers. There’s also heaps of festoon and other custom set electrics. Control is by a MA Lighting grandMA console and Chameleon is the gear supplier.

Lighting director Greg Yates has kindly agreed to a conduct an ALIA tour of his lighting rig for this production of CATS on Wednesday June 2nd in Sydney.
