ACC revamps with High End and Theatrixx

A pioneer from the start, the Adelaide Convention Centre emerged as one of the world’s most modern and technologically advanced meetings and events venues last year following a $397M redevelopment. With construction now finished, technical upgrades continue to roll out across the complex, further strengthening the venue’s tech and AV capabilities.

Not to be outdone by the ACC’s new West and East Buildings (which opened in 2015 and 2017 respectively), the central halls F,G, and H have had their lighting gear taken to the next level with 12 High End Systems SolaFrame 1500s and 14 High End Systems SolaWash 2000s. Meanwhile, the ACC’s video distribution backbone had been reinforced with the addition of three Theatrixx xVision fibre to SDI converters.

The High End Systems moving head LED fixtures have replaced legacy generic profiles and fresnels, and with them the need to bring in an EWP to refocus. Each Hall’s stage is covered by four SolaFrames and four SolaWashes, with both models giving lighting techs framing shutters to keep light off screens, or to tight focus on banners and lecterns. The fixtures integrate beautifully with the ACC’s fleet of High End Systems Hog desks, including 10 Road Hog 4s and 4 Full Boar 4s.

Evaluated against the leading competition, the High End Systems fixtures have impressed the crew with their output, range, zoom, and feature set. Throwing over the length and breadth of the halls, both the SolaFrames and SolaWashes have hit the opposite walls and maintained their colour impact over the distance.

Looking for a solution to the common problem of video converters not physically coping with the live production environment, the ACC discovered the Theatrixx xVision range. Made by production people for production applications, their recessed connectors, internal power, steel housing, built-in M10 socket, and magnet for clinging to those hard-to-mount places has won the crew over.

Connecting to their Riedel MediorNet SMF fibre infrastructure, the ACC team now deploy up to three xVision fibre to SDI converters as endpoints. Their built-in powerCON TRUE1 connectors and loop-through mean that smaller projectors can be run by daisy-chaining power, and their rugged construction means they will survive any bump-in and bump-out, no matter how intense.

Both High End Systems fixtures and Theatrixx xVision converters are distributed and supported in Australia and New Zealand by Lexair. The ACC’s local supplier, Andy J Sound, has the full backing of Lexair, and the ACC’s fleet of consoles, fixtures and converters will benefit from their industry leading support for the entirety of their working life.

“The High End Systems SolaFrames and SolaWashes were tested extensively by the ACC before purchase, and they represented the best results and value for money,” said Andrew Gayler, owner of Andy J Sound. “And those xVision converters are built like a tank! Put simply, they’re all great products, and reliable. Lexair offered the best products and service, with a tight timeline for delivery, and fulfilled their promise.”
