WA Youth Orchestra commemorated an illustrious 50 years with two special concerts featuring a selection of their most popular and renowned musical masterpieces.
Taking over Perth Concert Hall on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14, the concerts included popular WAYO renditions of Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Ennio Morricone’s Cinema Paradiso, John Williams’ Jurassic Park and more.
The performances featured conductors Peter Moore OAM and Tze Law Chan, with the WA Police Youth Band joining the celebrations as special guests for Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb’s Highland Cathedral.
The lighting design was by Alex Spartalis of GSD Productions who deployed 32 x ShowPRO R3 Wash and 12 x Prolights Astra Hybrid330 in his rig.
The Prolights Astra Hybrid330, a bright LED hybrid moving head, was a recent purchase by GSD Productions. A smart move by any production company looking to cover a lot with a little. It boasts exceptional power relative to its compact size, producing an array of breathtaking visual effects and it has a great zoom range from 3° degrees to 50°.
The Astra Hybrid330’s gobos, 11 fixed and eight rotating, were given a spectacular workout during the concert filling the venue with beautiful colours and patterns.
Importantly for an orchestral performance, the Astra Hybrid330 is not only compact and powerful but SILENT.
The ShowPRO R3 Washes beautifully flooded the entire stage area and beyond. The powerful and extremely flexible fixture delivered versatility to the design with its narrow, intense beam or a wide, soft wash. It’s very quick pan and tilt meant it could keep up with the fastest of tempos!
Control was via the venue’s MA Lighting grandMA2 full size.
This exceptional celebration concert was an unforgettable experience for all, no doubt aided by the stunning lighting design!
