Redmond Theatre Manager

rendiville Catholic College is a Catholic co-educational College established by the Archdiocese in 1986 with over 1100 students from Year 7-12.  The College is a Christ centred, child focused, faith and learning community, guided by our College motto Christus Pastor Meus – Christ My Shepherd.

The Principal encourages enthusiastic applicants to apply for the position of Redmond Theatre Manager, which is currently available at the College. 

This is a full-time, ongoing position within our Performing Arts Team and commencement will be as soon as possible and negotiated at interview.

Purpose of the Role 

The Redmond Theatre Manager is directly responsible for the administration and technical capacity of the Redmond Theatre – a 300 seat theatre that represents the central performance space for the Performing Arts Centre at Prendiville Catholic College. The Redmond Theatre Manager provides technical expertise and on-the-ground support for events and productions at the venue and for associated on-site venues. The Manager works closely with the Performing Arts Staff to successfully stage its program of events, ensuring operations are appropriately scheduled and managed. They will also work with the College Leadership Team and other Learning Areas to support the needs of the College community in utilising the Theatre and any required technical equipment. The role spans across theatre management and technical production and has a student interface, which sets it apart from standard Theatre Manager roles. The Redmond Theatre Manager reports to the Vice Principal through the Head of Performing Arts.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Theatre Operations:

  • Managing Theatre bookings with due consideration of College calendar and staff/client’s operational needs
  • Managing events for College and external hire purposes 
  • Completion of administrative and operational tasks in line with College requirements 
  • Keeping venue and technical equipment serviced and maintained, including annual rigging inspection 
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative and regulatory obligations 
  • Liaising with the Property Manager for: repairs and maintenance; out-of-hours security; cleaning services, both general and remedial 
  • Managing venue budget and upgrades where relevant
  • Managing casual staff bookings for internal and external events


College Events:

  • Recording and administering of all booking needs, such as technical equipment, staffing, security, maintenance, etc. 
  • Managing the set-up and operation of all technical equipment for College events 
  • Assisting Performing Arts staff with technical aspects of performance assessments and College concerts including lighting, audio, and projection requirements
  • Advising staff on the operation of equipment and use of facilities 
  • Providing construction and design advice in the areas of lighting, audio sets and props 
  • Providing recording, editing and post-production services 
  • Assisting in finding or creating sound effects and editing audio tracks for performance 
  • Advising students on technical aspects of theatre, e.g. stage management, audio, lighting, set construction, and video recording 
  • Other duties as required by the College Leadership or Performing Arts staff
  • Managing room bookings for the Gym for internal and external bookings


External Hire: 

  • Liaising with external parties regarding venue hire pricing, site visits, quotations, and bookings 
  • Managing Hire Agreements, including the administration of deposits, bonds, and insurances in liaison with the Finance Department and Deputy Principal 
  • Assuming the role of Theatre Manager, Sound Operator, Stage Manager or AV/Lighting Operator for hires, as required and hiring the required staff to ensure the clients’ needs are met


Other Duties: 

  • Attend meetings and/or professional development as required by the College.
  • Be responsible for professional conduct and demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Catholic ethos of the College. 


Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge of theatre, live sound (digital/analogue systems) and multi-media systems
  • Knowledge of multi-channel radio microphone systems
  • Experience with event operation and required tasks


Desirable: 

  • Formal qualifications or industry experience in a relevant field (sound/lighting/stage management/production)
  • Experience with X/M32 Series of sound consoles and equipment
  • Experience in QLab programming and operation
  • Knowledge of multi-media switching systems in a theatre environment
  • Competence in the use of computer-based programs, iPad control apps and network management
  • Experience/certification to work at heights (including White Card)
  • Experience in, and capacity to undertake stage management functions
  • The ability to use initiative and work independently, as well as a high level of collaborative skills for a team environment.


Statutory Requirements:

  • Current Working with Children.
  • Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check issued by the Department of Education.
